The next morning I got on my bike expecting to be refreshed from my eight hours sleep but instead my legs ached like I hadn't stopped and so I more or less rolled the 30km to the ferry. On the way I passed a 'beach'. It was hot and although I was already running late for the ferry I decided I'd take a quick dip. It turned out to be the most bizarre swim I've had.
First of all I was in the middle of nowhere at the top of Zealand in a region I later discovered is not approved for bathing, whatever that means. Instead of sand the beach was made entirely of large slippery rocks, all completely covered in seaweed except for a short section about 1 metre wide. Finally the water was only about 30cm deep and very fresh.
And so I stripped down and gingerly walked into the sea where I had to very carefully lie down on my back on these rocks so that I was completely submerged. It was surreal but very refreshing!

After my dip in the Baltic I arrived at the ferry and crossed the sea to Århus in Jutland. In Århus things took a turn for the worse. I had a few troubles navigating through the city using only a national-level map, it began to rain, I was tired and the bike computer I'd been given for my birthday stopped working. But I continued, stopping every few km and eventually the sun came out and I got my second wind and practically flew to the ferry at Hov.
From Hov I took the ferry to the island of Samsø. I found a backyard to camp in and I was stoked to discover that the owner could hardly speak a word of English! At last! Someone to speak to in Danish without them correcting me in English!
I went to sleep as a strong wind whipped up with lightning flashing on the horizon and I wondered if my little tent would survive the night.

Will Brian's tent be swept away by a tornado to a land of witches and tin-men? Only tomorrow's email will tell!
Brian.
